Re: Best song covers
Well, The Rollins song is my prob my least fav on the cd (excluding the last track), but I can still enjoy it. I was just saying I'm not a fan. Haven't heard a lot of his other work except for "Liar" and a couple others songs.
Yeah, though Manson and the band had been around for awhile in Florida, Trent was the first person already making music that took an interest. Can't remember how many times I've read his autobiography. Too many. Manson was definitely at the top of my musical world from the age of 15 to 20.

The Pivotal Jane Siberry tune too!... it's is a bit too tame, granted! My favourite is hands down "Burn" ... love the panning guitar effect.
So do you like Mechanical Animals then? It was the last great from Manson in my opinion. though I only like about 60% of the tracks, they're are up there with his best I feel.

Re: Best song covers
Oh yes, I'm down w/ MA. If I have a fav Manson song it would probably be the title track to that album. I don't care for a few of the "hollow anthems" as Marilyn called them(I dont like the drugs and I want to disappear), but I love that album. Also really enjoy Fundamentally Loathsome(even though he reused some of that songs lyrics in a DMX song he appeared on) and Great Big White World. The later was rumored to be the original title of the album, but it was supposedly changed due to the name GBWW having racial undertones.
I must say that I really like Holy Wood as well. That imo is their last great album. It goes on to long and has prob 4 or 5 unneeded songs, but I can't imagine not having Love Song, Target Audience, President Dead, Crucifixion in Space, or Valentine's Day to listen to. Its my least fav of their "Trilogy" as he called it(AC Superstar, MA, & HW) but I still love it.
After that album and after Twiggy quit is when Marilyn Manson pretty much became a solo artist imo. Wonder how that will be now that Twiggs is back in the fold?

A Perfect Circle's album Emotive is mind blowing. This whole album is the collection of cover songs.

Re: Best song covers
Hey man, sorry killing the conversation... my inbox was full of work so I put this to reply to in my to do folder and only just stumbled across it again.
I had no idea twiggy was back... I got the last 2 albums but I've heard absolutely nothing from them.
I love MA too... but I rate it so high based on the last 3 track run alone. Fundamentally Loathsome (as you mentioned) , which for a long time I was convinced was called Fundamental Loathsome... It's the solo man!
As for Last Day On Earth... tune! It was the last song I played before the stroke of midnight on millennium eve. And Coma White just speaks for itself.
As I may have mentioned before, I sorta lost touch with Manson from that point, obviously tracks like The Nobodies always made their way into my playlists (I'm particularly fond of the acoustic version). Saying that though, my all time favourite Manson song is from an album I've barely listened to, the actual track Golden Age Of Grotesque... what a chorus!

Re: Best song covers
My favorite covers would have to be:
Live and Let Die - Guns n' Roses - Paul McCartney & Wings
Sympathy for the Devil - Guns n' Roses - The Rolling Stones
Summer Breeze - Type O Negative - Seals & Crofts
I Put A Spell on You - originally by Howlin' Wolf - Creedence Clearwater Revival
I like some of Marilyn Manson's stuff, though not so much that version of Spell. However, his version of Personal Jesus (originally by Depeche Mode) rocks!
I also enjoyed most of Ozzy's cover album, though I can't say that any of the songs beat the originals.

Re: Best song covers
No apology neccessary. I havent checked back in awhile. I figured I was going to be guilty of killing it too.
Yeah, the first 6 tracks on MA are great and so are the last 3. I REALLY enjoy the acoustic version of Last Day on Earth from their live album "Last tour on Earth" I believe its called. I should find it & take a listen.
Twiggy was back for at least the US leg of "Rape The World" tour Manson did for "Eat me, Drink me". Twiggs and Ginger were both part of the live band. Seen em in Cleveland a few years ago. Twiggy also wrote the new album (High End of Low) w/ Manson and Chris Vrenna(who was also in the band for aforementioned tour on keyboard). More NIN and Manson trading ex band members.
As for Fundamentally Loathsome, yeah, its the solo. That and what ensues. Love how it picks up at the end and the emotion put into it.
Dean-a-ling- I concur w/ the Type O selection. GnR's rendition of Live and let Die isn't too shabby either imo.

Re: Best song covers
Even though this version was done before the band who actually wrote it, it's still technically a cover... I don't learned that it was recently - ish

Re: Best song covers
Stairway to Heaven by Rolf Harris is quite fun. He did a whole album of tongue in cheek covers called "Rolf Rules O.K!"
