Mars Volta

The Mars Volta is by far my favorite band and everytime i meet music fans i always make sure to tell them. i quoted this from Wikipedia on their first album that was release in 2003. I strongly recommend it. if you believe in p2p you can find the whole album on isohunt.com

"De-Loused in the Comatorium is the first studio album by the progressive rock band The Mars Volta. Based on a short story by lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, and sound manipulation artist Jeremy Michael Ward, it is the hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who tries to kill himself by overdosing on a mixture of morphine and rat poison. The attempt lands him in a week-long coma during which he experiences visions of humanity and his own psyche. Upon waking, he is dissatisfied with the real world and jumps to his death. The story of Cerpin Taxt is based on the death of El Paso, Texas artist (and Bixler-Zavala's friend) Julio Venegas.

De-Loused became both critically and commercially their biggest hit, eventually selling in excess of 500,000 copies despite next-to-no promotion, and was featured on several critics' "Best of the Year" lists[1]. The album was ranked number 55 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitar albums of all time.[2] "Drunkship of Lanterns" was named the 91st best guitar song of all-time by Rolling Stone[3].

The music contained in De-Loused is distinguished by its enigmatic lyrics, Jazz rhythms, odd time signatures, and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's frenetic guitar riffs, which are often harshly dissonant. The title of this album is taken from the lyrics of the song "Eunuch Provocateur" on the band's previous release, Tremulant."

Re: mars volta

Deloused In The Comatorium is such a killer album that every time I try listen to any of the 4 albums that have come since, I just go right back and put deloused back on. I remember the week I first heard Inertiatic ESP I bought the album and bought tickets to see them at The Astoria, the only disappointment for me was that they never even played Inertiatic ESP... great gig though... in fact I also watched Marilyn Manson and Linkin Park in the same week, still a record I haven't beat.

The Mars Volta

Got their latest album the other day, my first of theirs. Having trouble getting into it so far, I find it a little too quirky for it's own good. And not enough big Rock moments. Any fans out there?

The Mars VOlta

I am a massive fan of The Mars Volta and Omar Rodriguez Lopez generally

What are peoples opinions on his music?

Do we have any die hard Volta fans on the forum?!

Re: mars volta

their first studio album is indeed deloused but they do have an EP prior to that called ' Tremulent' which is not up to scratch with Deloused but still holds the blue prints of what was to come

on that note* the mars volta are frickin awesome!

have you looked into Omar Rodriguez Lopez solo work* check our Xenophanes which is one of his recent releases* its the last work to feature Thomas Pridgen the beast of a drummer from the Mars Volta album ' Bedlam in Goliath' which is itself a fantastic record

I am a massive fan also of TMV and Omar generally - if you dont know any Omar work i seriously suggest getting involved!!

im just new in this forum* but i can say that i am a "die hard Volta fan".

i once knew at the drive-in and i loved to listen to them and it was like a friend's death or something when they split up. but the day the mars volta published deloused it was like christmas or a new friend's birthday.

when i then discovered omars solo stuff i was absolutely freaking out - i love that even a bit more than volta* because sometimes volta is a bit too much for me.

im very surprised that we have a lot of volta and omar fans here* im glad to see that* guys
